He'd made it clear of the village with more than enough time to spare; catching the last ferry from the Port of Dreams to the mainland. This particular ferry was a direct route to the port in the Land of Deserts; although where it landed, the land was anything but desert. It was more river delta, lush and green and wet and beautiful. The ferry landed in port with over 20 minutes to spare, even with a conservative measure. This was the type of port that allowed for the purchase of just about anything, and near the edge he was able to secure a set of horses for them to use; three in total. Hardy desert horses that could run for days without tiring; and they'd go ever farther once they cross the desert edge and into the deep forests.

He mounted his big mare, the reigns of the other two horses tied to the pommel of his saddle and a firm, but gentle, kick sending the horses into a steady run. They covered the miles easily; a horse was much slower than a ninja, but much more common. They could pass as traveling merchants easily; he'd packed 'dry' packs that they could load onto the horses; filled with nothing but hay to look full, but still be extremely light.

He'd long crossed the mark in his mind, the seal would have been set off by that point even if the bag had burned as slowly as it possibly could. The reason he stopped? He'd reached a small roadside tea shop, outside of which sat two people; an adult and a young child, cloaked in travel cloaks and enjoying a light snack.

"Hello, loves. Save any for me?"

He dismounted and tied the horses to a nearby tree, allowing them slack to graze on the long grasses in the shade. They had a few minutes to spare, easily; he wasn't followed, he knew that much.

Legs too short to reach the ground with how far back she was sitting swayed in the gentle breeze as Amara sipped on her cold tea: she had quickly passed up on the hot drinks and had settled on the peach tea she hadn't had a chance to drink before they left. Her monkey friend, Aya, was currently hidden beneath her traveling cloak. However, as the pair heard Raijin's voice both looked up. Aya quickly removed herself from the traveling cloak Amara wore as Amara practically launched herself across the short distance and into her father's arms: hug clinging all of the way.

“Daddy! We got you tea, and a snack too!” No freak out, no sudden hiding: her response was now nothing different then a normal child. Of course, that didn't mean she wasn't going to be silent around strangers, but her and her mother had had a long talk on their way here and lots of fears had been put to rest. Though, there was still a lot that hadn't yet been explained.

Aya jumped around the two, making rather happy screeching sounds despite being completely able to speak like a human.

Amara looked over towards the horses and pointed at them. ”We get to ride horses? I've never ridden a horse before... do they bite?”

Ah yes, that had definitely been an interesting journey. However, it had surely been a good one: she had taken the time to explain not only to Aya what had happened to Amara, but also to Amara that the 'bad people' were never going to be able to hurt her again. It had taken a bit of convincing of course, you couldn't suddenly say something like that and expect it to change everything. But, she had explained that sometimes evil people lied to ensure that even when they were long gone people didn't tell on them. From there Amara had opened up and a bombardment of other questions had come up, including what Amara's real name was – all of which Ai had happily answered and told her. From then on she had simply stated she wanted to be known by Amara, and never again by Kaia: Ai had no issues with this at all.

“Hello, love. We grabbed you a little something while we waited. Amara and I had a long talk while we waited; I explained to her that it was alright for her to speak, that nothing bad would happen, and she informed me she no longer wants to go by Kaia but by her real name.”

Ai couldn't help but smile as she watched Amara practically cling to her father while Aya hopped around excitedly. Ai looked towards the horses when Amara pointed them out, thinking that that was indeed a smart way to travel: it would keep their true selves hidden away – shinobi didn't bother with horses because they were slower, so who would expect them to be riding one?

Her focus then shifted back on Raijin, a look of curiosity appearing on her face. “How did things go?”, a simple question that could be as easily as her asking about him getting the horses, but one she knew he would know the meaning to.

Well then, that was a pleasant surprise. It seems they'd gotten a lot taken care of in the short time since they'd left the market and arrived here. He held his daughter good and tight, brushing a few stray locks of hair out of her face, "Thank you, dear. I could use a drink after that ride." He moved to sit down on the bench with them, reaching for the cup of tea and taking a sip. "Oh, that's good. Nice and strong, but not overly sweet."

One of the horses whinnied, a bird was dancing on a branch close to it's face and it wasn't happy about it. "They won't bite unless you make them; they're gentle beasts. They will nibble your hand if you offer them treats."

Another sip of the tea, "Easy as could be. In and out, plenty of time." He reached for one of the little tea cakes, taking a bite before continuing, "These are top grade caravan horses; they'll serve us well for the trip. I've got plenty of feed for them, so we won't have to worry about finding grazing spots. They're broken for novice riders, too; so Amara won't have any problems riding one of them if needed. I figure the third horse can be a 'draft' horse for us, make it look like we're proper merchants. I've got enough backs and such to make it believable. They're light enough to not weigh her down any, so we can carry extra water. The less we use our skills, the better."

Amara smiled brightly as her father pushed several strands of hair out of her face. She then looked around him to the hopping monkey before sitting. She held her arms out towards Aya who jumped right into them, clinging to Amara for a second before disappearing back beneath her traveling cloak upon hearing the horses. Amara giggled, squirming a bit as if Aya were tickling her. ”No need to be afraid, I'll protect you Aya!”, Amara declared, squirming even more as she really was tickled.

When Aya was finished she picked back up her own drink and sipped the rest down through the straw while listening to her parents speak. With her cup empty she rested her head against her father and yawned. ”Where are we going?”, she asked curiously as her gaze returned to the horses: she wanted to approach them, to pet them, but remained where she was for the moment.

Ai couldn't help but nod in agreement: she had little to no intention of actually using her skills until it was deemed necessary. The less people who caught on to who they really were for the moment the better. “I was thinking the same thing.”, she commented softly.

Ai watched Amara for a moment, smiling gently as she caught on to the fact that her daughter, despite her apparent attempt to stay awake, was tired. “Someone looks like they could use a nap.”, she said with a soft chuckle. She wouldn't doubt that the monkey needed a nap too; as she had figured that was likely why she kept ducking into Amara's traveling cloak like she was.

At Amara's question though she looked to Raijin: she still had yet to explain everything in detail to Amara, as there had been no time. Plus, she wanted Raijin there to do it all. “Good question. I think... at some point we also need to explain some things. I didn't want to do it without you there for the dicussion, love.” Again, she was being careful with what she said given they were outside of a building and anyone could be listening.

"Of course. We're going to spend a few days in the desert, then head into the forests. We're going to visit a temple with all kinds of fun things to do and explore." He agreed that she'd need to be told things, but for now, he'd give her the short version that wouldn't risk their safety any.

"Now Amara, we left the village because of various reasons; but mostly because there was a problem with the people in charge, and we didn't want to see you get hurt because of it. Evil people where making plans to do bad things; and the only way we can stop them is from outside." He said it in that way that would be clear to her that they would explain better once they could, but that now wasn't the time.

He finished his tea and sandwiches, and stretched a bit; they had a long way to go, but they where safe enough to be slow about it now. He'd get them moving when they where ready.

Amara listened carefully despite feeling a bit sleepy. The idea of getting to see new places excited her because she had, after all, never had a chance to actually leave the village before. Now that that chance was staring her in the face? She wasn't going to complain at all.

She also listened as her father explained to her why they left as they had: it made sense, though she easily picked up on the fact that he didn't seem to want to go into further detail about it here. She nodded in understanding and smiled. “Kay!”, she said simply.

Aya, suddenly curious about everything now, poked her head out from beneath Amara's traveling cloak and looked around the child to Raijin and Ai. ”Do people in the desert eat monkeys? I don't want to be eaten, I really don't taste very good.” Amara, hearing her friend hugged her close, which only caused the monkey to hug-cling to her back.

”No one's going to eat you, silly. I won't let 'em!” Ah yes, Amara was slowly but surely becoming braver: she wasn't the little girl who was being knocked over and beaten up just such a short period of time ago. No, something was definitely shifting within the child, making her far braver, and far more willing to stand up – if not for herself – then at least for Aya.

[Ai asked to be skipped, so that we can finish this.]

"Indeed little one, no one will eat you. You'd be a pet to them, the desert peoples like to keep strange and different animals around; a sort of status symbol proving they have the access to the water and can afford the food to keep them alive." He gave the sun a quick glance, calculating the time before darkness fell and hashing out how long they could travel before needing to make camp. He'd brought plenty of camping gear, and they could make a comfortable camp even in the darkness.

"Let's get going, shall we? I have a basket that we can put some blankets down in, for Amara to nap until we make it to a good camp site. If we even want to stop. The horses are plenty fresh, and we have enough water to risk pushing through the desert during the day. We'll only spend a day or two in the dry lands, unless we want to swing by an oasis village. I don't see a reason to go all the way down to Yokuchi, really."

Amara nodded excitedly; though a yawn broke though that caused her to pause. Today had been an exceptionally eventful one, and it was taking its toll on her. ”I'm sleepy, now...”, she said softly. It was better to admit it now then to have to worry about it later on, after all. As excited as she was to travel and finally get to leave the village for the first time, she was still a child who was far too tired.

Aya simply curled up next to Amara; leaning into her side, with her little arms wrapped around her. She too was tired. If anything, the pair would likely hug-cling themselves to either Raijin or Ai while they traveled and sleep that way. Given their small sizes it wouldn't be hard to do.

Adorable. "Sleep now, little ones. When you wake up, we'll either be at camp, or in a proper town." He lifted them up and moved toward the horses, settling them into the basket and covering them with a soft blanket to keep the few bugs in the region, as well as the dust of the road, off them. He made sure the straps and such where set firm but still comfortable for the horses. The better taken care of they where, the better they would perform for them. He untied the two riding horses from the tree, and tied the draft horse back to the pommel of his saddle.

He handed the reins of the other horse to Ai and mounted up, "Stay beside me, we'll ride by side for now. One we're into the sands, we'll switch to single file." He waited for her to mount and nudged the sides of his horse with his heels, clicking his tongue a special way, signaling to the horse that it was time to move. Down the road they went, off toward the freedom of the open world.
