Puppetry Guidelines 200

The Puppet Technique is a unique ninjutsu fighting style; this technique uses chakra threads to control puppets like marionettes. Any number of chakra threads can be used to control a puppet, but users with more skill can use fewer strings per puppet. Most puppeteers (傀儡使い, kugutsutsukai) are normally able to control ten puppets at most (one per finger). This technique has few weaknesses: the Puppet Technique is a long range style, meaning that the puppeteers are weak against close range fighters. Since most puppeteer use his or her hands to manipulate the puppets, if their hands are disabled, then the technique can be neutralized. And because the puppet's movements are based on the mechanisms that were installed inside, interfering with said mechanisms can stall the puppet entirely. Another weakness is that a puppet's movement is dependent on the will of the user, and as such there will be a time lag between the user's commands and the puppet's response.

Puppets (傀儡, Kugutsu) are used as weapons by puppeteers. They are most often humanoid-looking creations, but depending on the creator, can resemble anything. They are fashioned in a manner that uses every part as a weapon, giving the puppeteer a myriad of ways to manipulate it. Puppets are long-ranged type weapons that can be used offensively, defensively or for supplementary reasons, and are controlled via Chakra Threads. Because of their design, the weak point of any puppet is its joints.

A puppet's base physical ability is that of a ninja of the same rank that isn't specced in a combat specialization; meaning, a d-rank puppet can fight on the same level of a genin who doesn't have taijutsu, kenjutsu or kyujutsu, etc. The same goes for their speed, following the combat guidelines for whatever the lowest based is. Both of these can be enhanced at puppetry creation with an armory/weaponry slot.

The number of puppets you can control at once, as well as how much they cost to buy in the first place and the amount of mechanisms they may have, is dependent on your rank. (As well as the puppet's rank)

In order to make the specialty a bit easier to use; as it does get very expensive very quickly; all puppeteers will be allowed 1 basic D-ranked puppet for free. This must be apped after/at character creation.

D-RANK: One puppet using both hands. Can use up to a c-rank puppet.
500 ryo with 2 armor/weapon slots, option of 2 number of upgrade slots.

C-RANK: Two puppets, using one hand each. Can use up to a b-rank puppet.
750 ryo with 3 armor/weapon slots, option of 2 number of upgrade slots.

B-RANK: Four puppets, one hand per each two. Can use up to an a-rank puppet.
1000 ryo with 3 armor/weapon slots, option of 3 number of upgrade slots.

A-RANK: Six puppets, one hand per each three. Can use up to an s-rank puppet.
1250 ryo with 4 armor/weapon slots, option of 3 number of upgrade slots.

S-RANK: Ten puppets, one finger per each. Can use up to an ss-rank puppet.
2000 ryo with 4 armor/weapon slots, option of 4 number of upgrade slots.

* Additional armor/weapon slots may be purchased and take up an upgrade slot to do so. Mod discretion on pricing.
*** SS-rank puppets are not available for purchase; nor are Human puppets. Information about acquiring these will be released at a later date. Do not ask, do not even attempt to acquire them. You will be ignored.

  • Puppet armor, such as Hiruko here, may be purchased and used as of B-rank. This requires all chakra strings to be used on this "armor" regardless of rank while it is in effect. Once the armor is taken off/dismissed/destroyed you may use other puppets.
  • Puppeteers may use poison. These follow the poison rules.
  • As of the moment Human Puppetry is BANNED, though it is currently being worked on.

Amputations and Replacing Limbs: As seen with various puppeteers, replacing lost limbs, or augmenting the human body with puppetry based limbs is possible, if not very common. Each replacement part must be bought and created separately; as well as being approved by staff before use.

D-Rank: Individual digits of the hands and foot. No enhancements.
C-rank: Entire feet or single hands just above the ankle/wrist. May contain a single enhancement of equal or lower rank.
B-Rank: Arms/legs from the elbow/knee down. May have up to two enhancements of equal or lower rank.
A-Rank: Entire limbs. Up to three enhancements of equal or lower rank.
S-rank: Entire limbs. Extremely powerful enhancements are allowed at this rank; up to 4 total. Each enhancement of this rank is priced separately and added together on top of the basic S-rank price.

D-Rank: 100 ryo
C-Rank: 100-500 ryo
B-Rank: 500-900 ryo
A-rank: 900-1500 ryo
S-rank: 1500 ryo and up
